Huskies v. Bears

.

Football games aren't only about the game. The whole experience includes how you get there, the roller coaster emotions while you're watching the game, and the sportsmanship afterwards.

Getting There

Today Adam took the initiative to lead us to the stadium via the less traveled route.

He took us through the sticks.

So far in the sticks that signs were posted to help us find our way.

We knew we were on the right track when we saw Dawg fans arriving on their boats.

The Emotions

The atmosphere is pumped with energy. The Husky Marching Band is warming up for their march...

They are dancing motivational jigs...

Their shoes are shined, and their hats brushed.

In the midst of all the energy there is a calm. A little angel whispers to the husky "Today is your day."

Today our challengers are the California Bears.

They look stout...

They look intimidating...

But little do they know...

That today...

Is our day.

We are powerful.

We are confident.

The UW Marching Band opens the ceremony with a song.

We honor old glory. We honor this land of the free and home of the brave.

Then it's game time!

Oh, the poor Bears. Little do they know...

Today a lucky cricket told us "It is your day."

Then we hit a down... The Bears take the first score.

Then we hit a high...

The Dawgs answer to the bears!

And on the Bears' third downs, we make noise...

We intimidate the Bears with our mighty "woofs!"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

Then we hit another down...

When one of ours is down, we give them a sign of our undying support.

Then Keith Price makes the hike...

Josh Shirley gives a stiff arm...

And here comes Austin Seferian-Jenkins...

And my humble Nikon D60 isn't fast enough to catch the touch down. But she is trusty enough to catch the celebratory dance.

The half time entertainment is always good for the nerves. It calms us.

Did you know that baton twirling is an international competitive sport? Our Catherine Watters is a champion!

Through win and losses, we bleed purple and gold.

In the last seconds of the game, we keep the Bears from scoring.

At the end, we emerge the victors!

Thank you God, for this day, for this win. Now I can go home and sleep a good sleep.

The Sportsmanship

There is nothing more sportsmanlike than to gather for a hand shake at the end of the game.

At the end of the day, as was in the beginning, Adam took the initiative to navigate us home.

Through hellacious traffic!

Josh: What the [bleep] Adam!

5-Star Scotty: I should have taken the freeway!

Adam: But it's such a good opportunity to bond!

All: Bond my [bleep]! I just wanna have a Dick's burger already, and go home!

So much for sportsmanship.

But hey, we won!

And this is just one game out of thirteen.
